Designing Yamuntu: A Social Commerce App for Fashion Enthusiasts

Yamuntu is an online retail platform focused on social commerce for Gen Z.They reward users for sharing brand content through the app and they build partnerships with brands to create user-driven marketing campaigns powered by real user content.As Founding Designer I led the design and launch of Yamuntu’s first MVP, creating a community-driven experience where users could share content featuring their favorite brands, get rewarded, and shop—while enabling brands to engage directly with customers through UGC campaigns.

From Sharing to Shopping: An Ecosystem Built on Community, Brands, and Rewards

The app is built around three core pillars:Community Feed – where user-generated content (UGC) is shared, allowing users to showcase their style and creativity.Brands Tab – where users can discover partner stores and be redirected to shop their favorite products.Reward System – enabling users to earn rewards by posting stories, tagging brands, and sharing what they love with their community.

Outcome and results

Within six months of launch, the Yamuntu app reached over 14,000 monthly active users, with more than 50,000 user-generated posts shared featuring partner brands, a 30% retention rate after three months, and an average of 4 posts per user in their first month—showcasing strong early engagement and brand affinity.
